KOHIMA: Urging the Railway ministry to restore the freight duty concession on goods coming to the north east, the law makers of the states of region said its discontinuance had caused in an increase transportation costs.
The just concluded 10th conference of North East Region Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (NERCPA) here in a resolution appealed to the Railway Ministry to restore six per cent rebate on greight of goods, allowed since 1983 to the states of the region.
The scheme was discontinued in January last year.
In another resolution, NERCPA urged the Centre to develop roads connecting the border trade points in Nagaland along the international border with Myanmar on a priority basis.
The conference was attended by speakers, deputy speakers, ministers, MLAs and high officials from the seven north eastern states and Sikkim.
