TIRUCHIRAPPALLI: The Central Railway Workshop at Golden Rock here has bagged a Rs 225-crore order from the Container Corporation of India (CONCOR) for supplying 1,125 container wagons, a top official said on Friday.

Chief Workshop Manager S Rengarajan told reporters the workshop has been receiving orders from CONCOR for high-speed bogie low container wagons since 2002-03 and over 1,000 wagons had been delivered so far.

The workshop is now busy manufacturing 990 wagons ordered by CONCOR.

It is also gearing up to enhance its production capacity from the 600 wagons to 1,000 wagons a year and this will be done over next two years.

The expansion programme will comprise restructuring and reorganisation of the workshop, inducting new technology in collaboration with various agencies like BHEL and its research wing, the Welding Research Institute, which is also located in Tiruchirappalli.

Rengarajan anticipated a more lucrative future for the BLC Wagons because the Railways Ministry has plans to go in for a dedicated freight corridor and open the cargo division to the private sector.
