We are planning to import wine from Italy. Please tell us about custom and excise duties by Maharashtra government and about recent notifications on excise and custom duty.
The basic duty of customs on import of wine is @150%+4% (Sp.Addl. Duty). Total duty is 160%. The Notification No. 21/2002-Cus.
There is no central excise duty and education cess on import of wine. State duty depends on value of wine per bottle.
We have received duty credit scrip under focus market scheme. The port of registration is Mulund. As per procedure, the scrip details are to be verified by the customs dept. at port of registration. On approaching to Customs authorities at port we were informed that they do not have instructions to verify the duty credit scrips issued under focus market scheme. Kindly advise how to proceed in the matter.
You can approach Commissioner of Customs (General), New Customs House, Mumbai for redressal of your grievances. There is no verification cell at CFS-Mulund, therefore verification work will have to be attended by Mumbai Customs.

The Government of India has announced various schemes and policies for promotion of exports. These include cash refund as Duty Drawback, credits as Duty Entitle Passbook DEPB, Duty Free Import Scheme. No Excise duty, VAT, and Service Tax etc.
For exporting the goods, you have to obtain Importer-Exporter Code No. from the office of DGFT. The goods can be exported by filing a document known as 'Shipping Bill' at the Customs port. You can approach any 'Custom House Agent' for services for clearance of goods from customs and shipment. There are number websites and books available in themarket.
A European company wants to set up a unit in SEZ for making diamond wire for granite cutting. Will it get tax and duty benefits if material sold in DTA area?
The applicable duty on diamond wire for granite cutting is 10%+14%(CVD)+4%+(2%+1% cess)

A SEZ unit can import the goods duty free for export. For DTA sale, customs duty including excise duty is applicable and required to be paid on clearance. The applicable duty on diamond wire for granite cutting is 10%+14%(CVD)+4%+(2%+1% cess)
