Power of fitment of speed governor being taken back by govt
No objection to the power of fitment of speed governor being taken back by the centre
No objection to the power of fitment of speed governor being taken back by the centre. With improved roads and better vehicle technology, there is need for fixing the speed limits rationally.
Maharashtra:
There are a number of provisions in the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, to ensure safety. Speed governor may not be the number one priority item in this respect.
Gujarat:
No objection if these are mandated by the centre . But some exception has to be made for vehicles like mobile clinic, ambulances, firefighters etc.
Rajasthan:
As per directions of Rajasthan High Court, the state issued a notification for speed governors in stage carriage buses. The operators have opposed this.
Goa:
West Bengal:
Implemented in Kolkata and on national highways. It would be difficult to agree to the suggestion that fitment of speed governors be mandated uniformly by the central government across the states.
Himachal Pradesh:
State has a mixed terrain, comprising hills and plains. When speed governor is fitted, speed cannot be varied according to terrain.
Meghalaya:
Not mandated fitment of speed governors. Mandating it uniformly across all states by GOI should be considered carefully.
