National Register and Transport Portal by the government is aimed at large scale introduction of ICT in road transport sector.

The recently launched National Register and Transport Portal by the government is aimed at large scale introduction of information and communication technology ( ICT) in road transport sector, said union minister for road transport and highways Dr CP Joshi.

Addressing the 8th meeting of the consultative committee of Members of Parliament attached to the ministry, Dr Joshi said that the ICT has been introduced in various government departments under National e-Government Plan (NeGP) to enhance the image of government, to improve the service delivery time and to make more service delivery channel.

According to him, about 95% of data with RTOs of all the 35 states and union territories have been replicated at National Register (NR). The data available at both State Register (SR) and NR could be used for providing various G2G, G2C and G2B services and to various agencies such as law enforcement agencies, NCRB ( National Crime Record Bureau), SCRB (State Crime Record Bureau), etc. Dr Joshi said that the NR & SRs will enable provisioning of anytime, anywhere citizen centric services which will enable reduction of the employees workload and improve RTO functioning .

In July 2011, Dr Joshi had launched the registry and portal. At the same time, he unveiled the SCOSTA (Small Card Operating System for Transport Application) compliant unified visual design of smart card based driving licence and registration certificates.
