The town of Mundra is located about 60 km from Gandhidham and 400 km from Ahmedabad, on the northern coast of the Gulf of Kutch. The country���s second largest district Kutch covers an area of 45,612-sq km ��� more than the state of Kerala ��� and is very thinly populated, with just about 2 lakh people. Kutch is mineral rich region with considerable reserves of lignite, gypsum among others.

Following a massive earthquake in January 2001, the Union government and the state government granted tax incentives for setting up new industries in Kutch that led to a rapid wave of industrialisation. It attracted Welspun, Ajanta clocks, JayPee Cements, Sanghi Cements, Jindal Steel among others to set up shops. Kutch has one of the largest windmill farm concentrations. Kutch region is also a major producer of salt. Today, Kutch is one of the fastest growing districts in Gujarat and India.
