Logistics companies experience growth pangs

Logistics companies in India and the companies that offer consulting services to them seem to have come up against a major developmental block in their growth trajectory. According to consultants ETSL talked to, at least half a dozen leading logistics providers are seriously looking at ways of expanding their basket of services to become all inclusive, one-stop shop for services incorporating sea, air, land and other supply chain logistics services.

'They have the money but do not know what to do or where to go. Having built a sizable presence in the logistics market, they all want to grow and expand to related areas to keep up their growth momentum," said a senior consultant privy to such discussions with a couple of logistics players.

While it is going to be real hard work for consultants to offer the right kind of prescriptions to the companies, the latter would have to seriously study the proposals as to find ways to integrate them into their existing operations.
As Indian logistics industry has already run its first mile, the next mile is expected to be more difficult and complex. It would be worth watching how the industry operators are playing out their respective game plans.
