Lalu rules out privatisation of Railways

The Railways Minister also renamed Motihari railway station as 'Gandhidham' as tribute to Mahatma Gandhi.

BIHAR: Railways Minister Lalu Prasad on Wednesday said that in no circumstances would he allow privatisation of the Railways.
"Mein Railway ka privatisation kisi hal mein nahin hone doonga" (I will not allow privatisation of railway in any circumstances), he said after flagging-off the Motihari-Porbandar Express linking Mahatama Gandhi's birth place with this place (Motihari) where the Father of the Nation had successfully experimented with 'Satyagraha'.
"With the Railways earning a handsome profit of Rs 20,000 crore last year there is no question of its privatisation," Prasad said.
The Railways Minister also renamed Motihari railway station as 'Gandhidham' as tribute to Mahatma Gandhi. Gandhi had experimented with 'Satyagraha' for the first time in India here, the district headquarters of East Champaran in Bihar in the form of 'Champaran Satyagraha' against British rule in 1917.
The Railways Minister also unveiled a statue of Gandhi in the station premises.
