Lakshadweep, Cochin Shipyard Ltd and Lakshadweep Development Corporation inks deal for vessel repair

The Memorandum Of Understanding was signed at a function held at New Delhi in presence of Shipping Minister G K Vasan.

KOCHI: Cochin Shipyard Ltd, Union Territory of Lakshadweep (UTL) and Lakshadweep Development Corp today signed an agreement for repairs of ships owned by UTL.

The Memorandum Of Understanding ( MoU) was signed at a function held at New Delhi in presence of Shipping Minister G K Vasan, a Cochin Shipyard release said here.

The MoU aims at ensuring uninterrupted availability of the ships of UTL for the service of the islanders. As per the MoU, LDCL shall submit a tentative schedule for repairs of all their vessels by November every year to CSL indicating the approximate schedule and repair duration of vessels in the ensuing year, the release said.

The UTL has 25 ships which include 17 passenger vessels, four cargo vessels, two tugs, one tanker, and one LPG cylinder carrier. All UTL vessels are presently being operated by LDCL.
