Konkan Railway zooms ahead on growth track
As it celebrates 17th Foundation Day on October 15, the Konkan Railway Corporation has a reason to rejoice with its operating surplus for the current year rising 71% over the corresponding period last year.
MUMBAI: As it celebrates 17th Foundation Day on October 15, the Konkan Railway Corporation has a reason to rejoice with its operating surplus for the current year rising 71% over the corresponding period last year.
KRC has recorded a significant jump in both freight earnings and coach earnings for ‘05-06. For the year its freight earnings increased 70% to Rs 149.4 crore.
For the passenger segment, the earnings have risen 4% in the past one year. KRC’s total earnings for the year have gone up to Rs 350 crore taking operating surplus to Rs 72 crore.
“With all parameters supporting the growth we expect to continue the positive trend and better numbers,” a KRC spokesperson said. During the year the corporation launched Railotels, affordable hotels closer to many tourist sites. It has so far opened two such Railotels at Kumta (Karnataka) and Ratnagiri (Maharashtra).
As of now it’s been entrusted with the most challenging job of building Katra–Laole portion (90 km) of Udhampur–Srinagar–Baramula Rail Link in Jammu and Kashmir.
