Kolkata Port Trust keen to undertake overseas jobs

Kolkata Port Trust (KoPT) is keen to provide consultancy to ports overseas and even execute small projects.

KOLKATA: Kolkata Port Trust (KoPT) is keen to provide consultancy to ports overseas and even execute small projects, its chairman A K Chanda said on Wednesday.

Chanda told reporters on the sidelines of an interactive session organised by Indian Chamber of Commerce that KoPT had approached the shipping ministry for getting approval.

He said initially, KoPT would undertake consultancy work following which small projects would be executed.

Asked whether KoPT was also looking at ownership of ports in other countries, he said although that was a very important aspect, it was not being considered at this point of time.

Chanda said that KoPT had received offers from various countries for management of port terminals. These included Nigeria and Myanmar among others.

He said KoPT had also undertaken various other projects to reduce transaction costs by modernisation of the existing berths at Kolkata and Haldia.
