Khadi kiosks at railway stations
After the introduction of kulhars and khadi-made bed rolls (linen) in reserved compartments, the railways plans to unveil khadi kiosks at major stations across the country.
It may be recalled that the Rajasthan has maximum number of khadi production centres in the country.
The KVIC also plans to open such kiosks at the airports all across the country. At present, KVIC is engaged in R&D activities to make products more customer-friendly by bringing innovative designs, colour and shapes. KVIC will soon market its E-charkha (wheels) for the benefit of common man. The unique feature of this E-charkha (priced at Rs 2,000) is that any one can get power supply for about five hours if he operates the E-charkha for at least two hours. The prototype for this charkha has been prepared by a weaver in Karnataka. This is now under a test.
All khadi shops in the country are being modernised and employees are trained in operation of modern equipment and computers. An exclusive Khadi Plaza has also been planned at Panipat in Haryana.
