Former ace cricketer Kapil Dev, who has joined shipping and logistics space by picking up 30% stake in the logistics arm of the Germany-based Doehle Danautic, has launched the company's new, and eco-friendly technology to fight corrosion in the shipping space and logistics spaces.

The new product, being brought in by through a tie-up between Doehle Danautic and the US-based ZRC Corp, is a galvanizer that can be used like a paint. According to the company, it is cheaper less time-consuming than the widely used anti-corrosion technology today -- hot-dip galvanizing.

According to the data available with heavy industries ministry, the country annually loses around 3% of the GDP to iron and steel corrosion in the shipping, rail and road transport space.

Stressing on the issue of corrosion and the losses incurred across industrial verticals, Mr Dev said that the loss has shown an exponential increase in last 5 years.

"The biggest losses are incurred in the infrastructure sector which has intensive use of iron and steel. Several infrastructural projects are being constructed like sky walks, Mumbai Metro, mono rails, flyovers wherein iron and steel are most widely utilized.

“The new technology is an effective, convenient and helps in conserving energy and costs since its can be applied on site,” he said.
