India-Singapore to develop Green and Digital Shipping corridor

India and Singapore will develop a Green and Digital Shipping Corridor (GDSC). An official statement said the two countries have signed a Letter of Intent (LOI) to collaborate for the same Tuesday. Both sides will work together on maritime digitalisation and decarbonisation projects, including identifying relevant stakeholders who could contribute to the effort.

Commenting on the development, Union Ports, Shipping, and Waterways Minister, Sarbananda Sonowal said, this corridor will drive innovation, accelerate adoption of low-emission technologies, and strengthen digital integration in the sector. "This partnership will set new benchmarks in sustainability and efficiency in the maritime sector," he said.

Sonowal also held a Bilateral Meeting with the Vice Minister of the Ministry of Infrastructure and Water Management, the Netherlands, Brigit Gijsbers on the sidelines of Singapore Maritime Week.


The two nations explored the possibility of developing a Green Shipping Corridor between the Port of Rotterdam and India’s major ports, such as Deendayal Port (Kandla) and VoC Port (Tuticorin).

A possible collaboration with Dutch Maritime Institutes and training centres to upskill India’s inland waterways workforce in areas such as dredging operations, vessel maintenance, digital waterway management, and sustainable navigation practices was also discussed.
