NEW DELHI: India will soon join hands with others nations to construct the Trans Asian Railway connecting vast parts of Europe and Asia.
A meeting of the Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Thursday night, approved the signing and ratification of an inter-governmental agreement on Trans Asian Railway, Minister for Information and Broadcasting P R Dasmunsi told reporters.
The inter-Governmental agreement would formalise the coordinated development of the Trans Asian Railway, which would help the movement of rail traffic and improve trade and tourism among Asian countries, he said.
Elaborating on the salient features of the agreement, Dasmunsi said the contracting parties would develop the rail lines of international importance. A working group would be established to consider the implementation of the agreement, he said.
The agreement, adopted at the 62nd session of the United Nations ECOSOC in April last year, is open for signing till December 2008.

It has already been signed by 18 countries, including Russia, China, Iran, several CIS nations, Cambodia, Thailand, Turkey, Vietnam, Mongolia, Sri Lanka, Nepal and Lao.Dasmunsi said the Cabinet also approved the creation of three posts of Professor (Law) and one post of Additional Registrar for the National Judicial Academy in Bhopal.
