The Directorate General of Shipping has advised Indian seafarers to exercise utmost caution and adhere to instructions issued by the Ministry of External Affairs and the Embassy of India, Tehran.
In its communication, the maritime regulator also called on shipping companies and related stakeholders to closely track the safety and status of Indian crew members deployed in the area and promptly share any relevant updates with authorities.
The advisory comes as tensions surge across the Middle East following large-scale military strikes involving Israel, Iran and the United States, raising fears of a wider regional spillover.
Iran’s supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei was killed during coordinated US and Israeli airstrikes, Iranian state media confirmed early Sunday, triggering a period of national mourning and sharp warnings of retaliation.
Officials have not announced any restrictions so far but stressed the importance of heightened vigilance and real-time reporting.
The move underscores India’s effort to ensure maritime safety and maintain readiness to respond swiftly should conditions deteriorate.
