Great Eastern Shipping to places order for three vessels

GE Shipping placed orders for buying three vessels with a Chinese firm, which are expected to join the company's fleet by 2016.

NEW DELHI: Great Eastern Shipping ( GE Shipping) said it has placed orders for buying three vessels with a Chinese firm, which are expected to join the company's fleet by 2016.

"G E Shipping has placed an order for building 3 new kamsarmax dry bulk carriers with the Jingasu Yangzijiang Shipbuilding Company, China...The 3 vessels are expected to join the company's fleet in second quarter and third quarter of calendar year 2016," the company said in a statement.

The largest domestic shipping company in the private sector has a fleet of 30 vessels at present, including 22 tankers and eight dry bulk carriers.

The company said the "contracted ships, of about 82,000 dry weight tonnage each will be built according to the new eco design features which will result in greater fuel efficiency and be in compliance with energy efficiency design index requirements."

Apart from the existing order, the company has earlier also placed an order for three vessels, including a tanker and a bulk carrier.
