Gautam Adani's son Karan Adani takes over as CEO of Adani Ports and SEZ

Karan Adani, son of Adani Group Chairman Gautam Adani, has been appointed as the CEO of Adani Ports and SEZ with effect from January 1, 2016.

MUMBAI: Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone (APSEZ) Monday said it has appointed Karan Adani as its chief executive officer. It added the board has accepted the resignation of its erstwhile CEO Sudipta Bhattacharya.

Adani, who will take over from Jan 1, is currently executive director at the company.

Adani, 27, is the eldest son of the Adani Group's founder chairman Gautam Adani. An economics graduade from Purdue University, US, he has been associated with the the group's ports business since 2009.

In a recent interview to ET, he said APSEZ, which has shown unprecedented aggression in expanding into India's port sector, is now scouting for more sites in states such as Maharashtra, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh. He also said the the company is looking to establish ports in at least four countries close to India to create synergistic linkages with Adani's Indian assets.

Bhattacharya, who is also whole time director of APSEZ, is now moving to the US to take over a group position as the CEO, the company said. He joined Adani four years back.
