France offers technical coop in transport sector in Delhi

France on Wednesday offered technical cooperation in various fields, including transport in the national capital.

NEW DELHI: France on Wednesday offered technical cooperation in various fields, including transport in the national capital.

In a meeting with Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit, French Transport Minister Dominique Bussecreau said his country was interested in offering possible funding to undertake a detailed survey and study for commissioning of tram-ways in Delhi.

According to a statement here, Bussecreau while referring to the success of tram-ways in various cities in his country, said such a system would go a long way in making public transport system more reliable in the city.

The visiting minister also took keen interest in infrastructural developmental projects related to ensuing Commonwealth Games 2010.

The Minister also apprised the Chief Minister about initiatives being taken by his government in curbing pollution.

"The initiatives include free cycle service, electrical cars and hybrid cars. The issues related to green transport and sustainable development would be discussed in conference on Urban Mobility scheduled to start in France," the statement said while quoting the French Minister.
