SRINAGAR: The foundation stone for the approach road to the railway station of the city was laid on Monday by Jammu and Kashmir Minister for Roads and Buildings Gulchain Singh Charak.
The four-lane 0.80 km road from city bye-pass to the station at Nowgam would be constructed at a cost of Rs 9.38 crore.
Charak directed the Chief Engineer (roads and buildings) Nazir Ahmed to complete the approach road before November as the railway line from Qazigund to Pattan is expected to be inaugurated in that month this year.
The minister also went round the under construction railway station coming up at a cost of Rs 10 crore.
IRCON Joint General Manager Naresh Bhana informed the minister that work on the station was on in full swing and it would be completed before schedule.
He said the station would have a parking capacity of 1,000 vehicles and two basements would house security forces.
Bhana said ticket and reservation counters would be on the ground floor while restaurant and other facilities would be on upper floor.
The trial run of the railways in the valley was scheduled in March this year but was delayed due to unseasonal snowfall.
