NEW DELHI: Railway Ministry has placed an order for purchase of 80 environment-friendly toilets for trains at a cost of Rs three crore.
This was stated by Minister of State for Railways R Velu in reply to written question in Lok Sabha.
He said the Indian Railways was in the process of developing environment friendly toilets for passenger coaches.
Besides, small quantities of such toilets for field experience was being procured before resorting to bulk fitment.
"Currently one order for eighty such toilets has been placed recently at a cost of approximately Rs three crore," the Minister said.
