Drivers Responsible For 78.5% of Accidents: Ministry of Road Transport and Highway

Drivers are found to be the single most important factor (78.5%) responsible for road accidents, fatalities and injuries during the year 2009.

Drivers are found to be the single most important factor (78.5%) responsible for road accidents, fatalities and injuries during the year 2009. According to " Road Accidents in India", a report released by Transport Research Wing of Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, pedestrians were seen responsible for 2.2% of accidents, faults of cyclists accounted for 1.2% of cases. While road conditions contributed to 1.3% cases, defects in motor vehicles led to 1.8% and weather condition 0.8% while 14.2% of cases were due to other causes.
