KOCHI: A meeting was convened by the Cochin Port Trust Chairman N Ramachandran with the representatives concerned, to resolve issues pertaining to handling of Inland Container Depot (ICD) containers.

Representatives of the Employees' Unions and representative of the India Gateway Terminal Private Limited (IGTPL) of the Dubai Port world were present.

The Cochin Port management and IGTPL agreed to honour the settlement of January 4, 1984 regarding handling of ICD containers. However as regards the difference of opinion in its interpretation it was agreed to resolve the issue through mutual discussions, port sources said.

It was decided to set up a committee, consisting of two Labour Trustees, representative of IGTPL and Secretary Cochin Port, as its convener, to formulate a suitable recommendation to have a solution to the issues relating to handling of ICD containers.

The Committee will submit its report to the Chairman within two weeks.

The Chairman expressed his concern over the tendency to go on strike without notice in the port. Hence it was decided to constitute an Industrial Relations Mechanism to avert flash strikes at the port.
