Cargo traffic at major ports grows by 5.2 per cent during first six months of FY 2016-17

Murmogao Port recorded the highest growth in traffic during the first six months of FY 2016-17 (April-September) showing an an increase of 61 per cent.

NEW DELHI: The 12 major ports in India handled 315.4 MT (Million Tonnes) of cargo during the first six months of FY 2016-17 (April-September) and showed a positive growth of 5.1 percent as compared to the same period last year. The cargo traffic handled by the major ports during the same period last year was 299.5 MT.

Murmogao Port recorded the highest growth in traffic during the first six months of FY 2016-17 (April-September); Mormugao Port showed an increase of 61 per cent followed by Paradip at 18.3 per cent Vishakhapatnam at 11 per cent, Kandkla at 7.1 per cent, Cochin at 5.2 per cent, V.O. Chidambaranar at 3.5per cent, New Mangalore Port at 3.4 per cent and Chennai Port at 0.3 per cent.
