KOLKATA: Shipbuilding majors APJ Bharti Shipyard and the Essar group, who have evinced an interest in setting up two separate shipyards in West Bengal, have been asked by the Buddhadeb government to submit rehabilitation packages to compensate residents likely to loose land as a result of the projects.
This time, the state government doesn’t want to land in trouble when acquiring land for the twin shipyard projects and has categorically asked the promoters to acquire land themselves.
“Representatives of both the companies recently made presentations to the state government for setting up shipyards in the state,” principal industry secretary Sabyasachi Sen said.
