NEW DELHI: The government on Wednesday said the overall availability of funds for maintenance and repair of national highways was below the norms.
In reply to a query in the Lok Sabha, Minister of State for Road Transport and Highways K H Muniyappa conceded that the Centre did not allocate sufficient funds for maintenance of the highways.
A sum of Rs 10867.06 crores has been earmarked for the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) during the current fiscal for implementation of all projects, including the Golden Quadrilateral project, he said in reply to a query.
The government has not formulated any schemes during the 11th Plan to achieve the growth of 9 per cent in the road sector, Muniyappa said.
