The Allahabad High Court has expressed serious concern over the rising cases of encroachment on the national highways and major state roads.

ALLAHABAD: The Allahabad High Court has expressed serious concern over the rising cases of encroachment on the national highways and major state roads.

A division bench comprising Justice V M Sahai and Justice Rakesh Sharma, while dismissing a writ petition filed by one Gulab Sonker, has observed that large scale encroachments have been made on the highways passing through towns and villages by putting stalls (gumti, khokhas etc.) and kiosks

Uttar Pradesh is the second largest state having poor roads. It appears that no action is being taken by the concern authorities of PWD, Nagar Palikas, Nagar Nigams on encroachment, the court said.

The court dismissed the writ petition of Sonkar, who had come to the court for reconstruction of his shop which was demolished on the ground of encroaching G T Road passing through Allahabad city.
