The Adani Group on Friday announced its plans to launch a dedicated Empty Container Yard (ECY) with integrated warehousing at Mundra Port.

Under the latest expansion plan, Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone Ltd. (APSEZ) is set to offer end-to-end services across the empty container lifecycle, including storage, maintenance, inspection, and seamless movement to exporters and Container Freight Stations.

Shares of Adani Ports were trading at Rs 1707.70 per scrip around 09:39 on Friday with a Rs 21.10 (+1.25%) hike from the opening price.

The facility would help streamline container handling and improve service for shipping lines and customers wherein operations will strengthen safety, security and regulatory compliance. By bringing empty container operations within the Mundra Port SEZ, the facility will also enable closer coordination among Customs authorities, shipping lines, terminal operators, and transporters.

Adani's Mundra Port handles nearly 35 per cent of India's container trade, making it India's largest container-handling port with 1.6 million TEUs of empty containers handled annually.

The company plans to add more than 6 million TEUs of container handling capacity over the next five years.

"The dedicated Empty Container Yard at Mundra to be operated by APSEZ and/or partners (including CFS and shipping lines) will enhance efficiency across the container ecosystem by enabling faster turnaround times, reducing unnecessary container movements, and optimizing logistics costs," said Ashwani Gupta, Chief Executive Officer at APSEZ.
