Gujarat tops logistics performance index chart: Commerce ministry

While Gujarat occupied the top position among 22 states, Jammu and Kashmir appeared last, even a notch below Bihar.

Gujarat has topped a perception-based index of mobility of goods and efficiency of logistics chain, closely followed by Punjab and Andhra Pradesh.

The state has been ranked the highest in the index, which is based on indicators such as infrastructure, services, safety of cargo, timeliness, track and trace, as per the new Logistics Ease Across Different States (LEADS) index developed by the commerce and industry ministry along with Deloitte.

Commerce and industry minister Suresh Prabhu released the report on Monday at the third meeting of Council for Trade Development and Promotion here.

“The commerce ministry is looking at logistics as a separate subject. We need to identify the cost of logistics. This includes turnaround time at ports, cost of power and the time that it takes for goods to reach their destination,” the minister said.
