New Delhi: Road transport and highways minister Nitin Gadkari called for greater focus on quality, safety, speed and world-class standards in the development of national highways, stressing the need for better planning and preparedness at the detailed project report (DPR) stage. This includes proper surveys, alignment planning, land acquisition, utility shifting and timely statutory clearances, Gadkari said while addressing a two-day Chintan Shivir in Gujarat. "Better preparedness at the initial stage can help minimise delays, avoid cost escalation and improve the efficiency of highway projects," he said.
