WRI, HCC to build longest railway bridge for Rs 3,230 crore

Welding Research Institute, a wing of the Bharat Heavy Electricals, and Hindustan Construction Co have signed an agreement to build the nation's longest railway bridge across river Brahmaputra linking Assam and Arunachal.

TIRUCHIRAPPALLI: Welding Research Institute, a wing of the Bharat Heavy Electricals, and Hindustan Construction Co have signed an agreement to build the nation's longest railway bridge across river Brahmaputra linking Assam and Arunachal.

The longest rail-cum-road strategic bridge costing Rs 3,230 crore would be completed by 2015, a company release said.

Describing the MoU as a step in the nation-building process, Executive Director of BHEL Tiruchi, A V Krishnan said, under the MoU WRI would provide consultancy, procedure development, inspection and distortion control and training of welding engineers, supervisors and welders according to European standards.

It would pave the way for the speedy completion of the bogey wheel project over the Brahmaputra with the latest welding techniques.
