Vande Sleeper trials in coming two months: Ashwini Vaishnaw

The Vande Bharat trains currently being used have only chair seating, limiting their use to daytime routes which are covered in a few hours. The sleeper variants will bring offer more comfort for passengers undertaking longer journeys.

NEW DELHI: The Indian Railways is anticipating trails of sleeper variant Vande Bharat trains in the coming two months. Speaking to journalists in New Delhi, Union Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said testing for these trains will take another six months.

"Final furnishing of the Vande Sleeper is going on," he said.

The Vande Bharat trains currently being used have only chair seating, limiting their use to daytime routes which are covered in a few hours. The sleeper variants will bring offer more comfort for passengers undertaking longer journeys.


Besides newer trains, Vaishnaw also said 19,837 special trains services were run to address the for summer rush during April, May, and June 2024.

According to official estimates, 4 crore additional passengers were ferried by the national transporter during these months.

In addition to these developments, Vaishnaw said trials of Amrit Bharat trains have been a success with production expected to start soon.
