Vande Bharat train video filled to the brim with ticketless passengers in Lucknow goes viral
A viral video shows overcrowded Vande Bharat train with ticketless passengers. ET Infra reports increased passenger traffic in 2023-24, prompting plans for more Vande Bharat and Amrit Bharat trains.
Videos from inside the train were shared by one X user, Archit Nagar. The video was dated June 9.
In recent times, several videos of crowded trains have come to light. Recently, a video showed people boarding even the first-class compartment. Another video from April this year showed a 2nd AC train coach filled with ticketless passengers.
Passenger traffic has jumped significantly in 2023-24. According to ET Infra, the Railways are now planning to introduce more Vande Bharat trains as well as 50 Amrit Bharat trains to tackle the overcrowding issue.
Each train can carry 1,000-1,200 passengers. With 50 new trains, the total capacity will go up by at least 50,000 seats. Besides, capacity augmentation is taking place through regular trains as well, the ET Infra report added.
“Last year we added 5,200 km of new tracks, which is equivalent to the entire rail network of Switzerland. This year we are adding 5,500 km. From 4 km per day in 2014, we are now adding about 15 km per day in new tracks. There is a clear focus on increasing capacity, passenger experience, and infrastructure. The PM's focus on Railways is very clear and it is helping bring more capacity. Once these three corridors are completed, we will have enough capacity to end the waiting list problem," Vaishnaw said in February this year.
