Vande Bharat Sleeper Coach Prototype Revealed: See photos, features of new 'aam aadmi' train, better than Rajdhani

Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw unveiled the prototype version of the Vande Bharat sleeper coach at BEML's facility on Sunday. The coach will undergo extensive trials and tests over the next 10 days before further track testing, with passenger operations expected to begin in three months.

The government has said that before the train is made available to the 'aam aadmi', it will go through multiple and rigorous tests to ensure maximum safety for the future.

"The coach will undergo rigorous trials and tests in 10 days before rolling it out on the track for further testing," Vaishnaw informed reporters. This new sleeper variant is expected to surpass the Rajdhani Express in terms of passenger comfort, speed, and safety. Manufactured by BEML, the train is set to be launched in the coming months, a TOI report by Smriti Jain said.


"We will start the series of production after one-and-half years. Then it will be like practically every month two to three trains will start rolling out," he added.

Vande Bharat Sleeper Train Specifications: The Vande Bharat sleeper train has a testing speed of 180 kmph and a maximum operating speed of 160 kmph. Compared to the Rajdhani Express, it can accelerate and decelerate more quickly due to its self-propelled train set, which increases its average speed. With 11 AC 3-tier coaches, 4 AC 2-tier coaches, and 1 AC First Class coach, the train's 16-coach prototype can accommodate 823 passengers.


Passenger Comfort and Amenities: The Vande Bharat sleeper train has top-notch amenities that meet European standards, according to officials. The interior of the train has GFRP panels, sensor-based intercommunication doors, automatic exterior passenger doors, and odor-free, ergonomic restrooms. The train also features modern passenger information systems, modular pantries, special berths and toilets for passengers with disabilities, and integrated reading lights with USB charging ports.

Safety and Comfort Enhancements: The Vande Bharat sleeper train is built with advanced safety features, including crashworthy elements like specially designed crash buffers and couplers. The materials used in the train adhere to the highest fire safety standards. Passengers can also expect superior comfort, with extra cushioning on the berths and redesigned ladders for easier access to upper berths. The train promises a jerk-free ride with fully sealed gangways that ensure a dust-free environment and better air conditioning.

Future Deployment and Impact: Indian Railways aims to deploy the Vande Bharat sleeper train on key routes, particularly those in the Golden Quadrilateral, such as Delhi-Mumbai and Delhi-Kolkata. However, the exact routes are yet to be finalized. The train is expected to undergo extensive testing before it becomes operational, marking a new era in India's rail travel.
