Trichy division registers Rs 260 cr revenue

TIRUCHIRAPALLI: Tiruchirappalli division of Southern Railway had registered a revenue of Rs 260 crore during the fiscal ending March, 2008, including the passenger traffic earnings of Rs 116 crore despite closure of 42 per cent of operation for gauge conversion work.
Delivering the presidential address at the 53rd Railway Week celebrations here yesterday, R C Jat, divisional railway manager, however, said major portion of gauge conversion works, including Vellore-Katpadi, Mayiladudugrai-Villupuram, Thiruvarur-Villupuram, Thiruvarur-Nagore and Sirkali-villupuram were expected to be fisnished by December.
The disivison would spend Rs 18 crore for improving passenger amenities during the current fiscal. Contracts were already awarded for improvement of various railway stations and platforms including Tiruchirapalli, Thanjavur and Ariyalur.
About 200 staff quarters were under contruction, he said.
