Train passengers with RAC tickets, take note: Railways says you must get a complete bedroll kit in AC coaches

The Railway Ministry has once again instructed all railway zones to provide complete bedroll kits to passengers travelling on Reservation Against Cancellation (RAC) status in AC coaches, following repeated complaints about the non-availability of linen and blankets.

In a letter dated 4 August, the ministry said it had continued to receive complaints from passengers across almost all railway zones regarding the non-provision or inadequate supply of bedroll kits.

RAC passengers entitled to the same bedroll facilities

Under the RAC system, two passengers share a single berth until a confirmed berth becomes available.


Reiterating its earlier instructions, the Railway Ministry said every RAC passenger travelling in air-conditioned coaches, except AC Chair Car, must be provided with a complete bedroll kit, just like other confirmed passengers travelling in the same coach.

The ministry directed all railway zones to ensure strict compliance with the Railway Board's instructions so that passengers do not face inconvenience during their journey.

Ministry acts after repeated passenger complaints

The latest reminder comes after the ministry received complaints through multiple channels alleging that RAC passengers were either not being given bedroll kits or were receiving incomplete sets.

The Railway Ministry has asked railway authorities to strictly follow the existing guidelines to ensure that all eligible RAC passengers receive linen and blankets without discrimination.
