Tejas Express lives up to name: Starts late but reaches well before time

Under the monsoon time table, the Tejas runs thrice a week from Mumbai and leaves from Karmali in Goa the next day.

NEW DELHI: Superfast Mumbai-Karmali Tejas Express is not named superfast for nothing. It lived up to its tag when it left the Karmali station three hours late and yet reached Mumbai CST a little before its scheduled arrival time. The run is part of monsoon service of the train which started yesterday.

Under the monsoon time table, the Tejas runs thrice a week from Mumbai and leaves from Karmali in Goa the next day. It halts at Dadar, Thane, Panvel, Ratnagiri and Kudal stations. The monsoon service will end on October 31.

Passengers got anxious when the train did not start for three hours after its scheduled departure time. However, they had a pleasant surprise when the train reached Mumbai CST well before its time.

"Tejas was delayed by a few hours as an empty rake from Mumbai came late. This was a rare case and a one-time problem. It won't happen again," said L K Verma, Chief Public Relations Officer of Konkan Railway Corporation, while speaking to EconomicTimes.com.

Tejas was scheduled to leave from Karmali station at 07:30 am but left at 10:30 am due to the delay. It reached Mumbai CST at 7:44 pm, just one minute before the scheduled time of 7.45 pm.

Punctuality has been a major cause of concern for Indian Railways. In 2016-17, the railways received 43,577 complaints about trains delays. Now Tejas has set a new bar for the railways.
