Tejas Express has made its debut on the tracks today. Nine things you need to know about it

Tejas is expected to change the Indian train passenger's perception about the national transporter and has been dubbed as an aeroplane on tracks.

A screen for every passenger, cuisine curated by celebrity chefs, WiFi, sensor taps and a bright, yellow look. The Indian railway passenger will travel posh from today with Tejas, the country's first semi-high speed, fully air-conditioned train.

Tejas made its first run today from Mumbai's Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus and it reaches Karmali, North Goa tomorrow morning, covering a distance of 579 km in 8.5 hours.

Tejas, according to Indian Railways, will change the Indian train passenger's perception about the national transporter, and it has a few good reasons to call this new train an aeroplane on tracks.

Here's what we know about this state-of-the-art high-speed train:

1) It will run on the Mumbai to Karmali (Goa) route five days a week during non-monsoon period and three days a week during monsoon (June 10 and October 31). Later, its route will also be extended to the Delhi-Chandigarh and Delhi-Lucknow sectors.

2) It's costly. Travellers will have to shell out 20 per cent more in terms of fares compared to the Shatabdi but with the facilities that Tejas gives, it's worth it.
