Suresh Prabhu announces launch of MUTP's third phase

MUMBAI: Railway minister Suresh Prabhu Sunday announced the launch of the third phase of the Mumbai Urban Transport Projects and a plan under which the state and central governments will form strategic partnerships with private entities to create small railway lines connecting industries to main lines.

MUTP is a project formulated by the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) to bring about improvement in the traffic and transport situation in the Mumbai metropolitan region with the assistance of the World Bank.

The third phase entails an investment of Rs 11,441 crore and entails the building of a railway corridor, redeveloping 21 stations, and expanding the roadways.

The state government would be investing Rs 10,000 crore budget on infrastructure and it would ensure that these projects are completed within five years.
