Steam loco to be dispatched for use in NMR

TIRUCHIRAPPALLI: The Golden Rock Railway Workshop here will dispatch the second oil fired steam locomotive for use in the Nilgris Mountain Railway (NMR) section, a senior official said.

The 80-year-old workshop had been entrusted to design and manufacture four new locomotives for NMR, out of which one had already been dispatched and put to use, Chief Mechanical Engineer ( Southern Railways), S K Sood said here yesterday.

He said orders to manufacture and supply 400 meter gauge passenger coaches for Bangladesh railways were in the pipeline, adding, the carriage works at Perambur near Chennai would receive the orders shortly for exports.

The workshop had earned Rs. 40 crore as sundry earnings, he said.

Earlier, he distributed cash awards and certificates to the staff of Golden Rock Railway Workshop.
