South Eastern Railway posts 11.6% jump in freight loading in April 2016

During the month under review, SER recorded a substantial 25% growth in iron ore loading at 6.99 million tonne compared to April 2015.

KOLKATA: South Eastern Railway (SER) posted a 11.6% jump in freight loading in April 2016 compared to April 2015. SER achieved a freight loading of 11.84 million tonne in April 2016 as against 10.61 million tonne of freight loaded during April last year.

Interestingly, Iron ore accounted for a major component of the higher loading performance in April 2016, in what also marks a revival in mining activity in mineral-rich states across the eastern region.

During the month under review, SER recorded a substantial 25% growth in iron ore loading at 6.99 million tonne compared to April 2015. As a result, South Eastern Railway generated freight earnings of Rs 893.24 crore during April 2016, which was Rs 19 crore higher than April 2015.
