Smoke emanates from Guruvayur-Trivandrum Intercity express compartment

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Passengers of Guruvayur- Trivandrum Intercity express had some anxious moments after smoke emanated from a compartment of the train this morning, shortly after it left Kazhakootum station here.

According to railway sources, the smoke could have emanated when sudden brake was applied after one of the passengers pulled the emergency chain.

The train was stopped and passengers including women, immediately jumped out of the compartment, a passenger said.

Railway mechanics rectified the snag and the train left for its onward journey to Trivandrum central.

The train was held up for about 20 minutes following the incident, the sources said.
