Safety nod to Airport metro may take more time

When contacted, Kardam said he is yet to receive papers from the Delhi Metro and the concessionarie after he sought clarifications.

NEW DELHI: The safety clearance to the high-speed Airport Metro Express line may take a little time with the Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety ( CMRS) seeking more clarification from the Delhi Metro and the concessionarie on documents sent by them.

The clarifications were sought by the CMRS yesterday, a day after the Delhi Metro and the Reliance Infrastructure -led consortium sent in additional documents as sought by Commissioner R K Kardam.

"He got back to us yesterday seeking some clarification on the documents. We have compiled the reply through the day and have sent it to him," Mangu Singh, Director (Works), Delhi Metro, said.

He told PTI that they are waiting for the CMRS' reply in this regard.

When contacted, Kardam said he is yet to receive papers from the Delhi Metro and the concessionarie after he sought clarifications.

This is the second time Kardam has sought clarifications on the Airport Line in a week.

DMRC chief E Sreedharan had on Friday last said the line, which missed its CWG deadline, will start operating in the next 10-15 days.

He said the work on the 22-km line that connects the city's shopping hub Connaught Place with the International Airport is "fully complete" and operations can start "within 24 hours" after the CMRS gives the green signal.

He also said Kardam has pointed out valid but "very, very minute" issues on the corridor.
