Railways to introduce in-cab signalling system to fight fog

Railways has undertaken a pilot project for providing in-cab signalling system in 35 trains to ensure their safe movement in foggy conditions, the Lok Sabha was told today.

NEW DELHI: Railways has undertaken a pilot project for providing in-cab signalling system in 35 trains to ensure their safe movement in foggy conditions, the Lok Sabha was told today.

The in-cab signalling system, using Train Protection and Warning System, is operational in New Delhi-Agra section.

Besides, Railways has provided LED signals at 4472 stations to improve visibility as part of a series of steps being undertaken to facilitate smooth train operations while it is foggy, said Minister of State for Railway KH Muniayappa in a written reply today in the Lok Sabha.

Extended trials of fog safety devices are also in progress in fog prone areas, he said.

Railways has cancelled 28 trains for two months to ensure safety of passengers in foggy conditions.
