Railways to install eco-friendly toilets in passenger coaches

In an effort to provide quality service to passengers, the Railway Ministry has decided to install 'Bio-Toilets' in all passenger coaches.

TIRUCHIRAPPALLI (TN): In an effort to provide quality service to passengers, the Railway Ministry has decided to install 'Bio-Toilets' in all passenger coaches.

"All passenger coaches will be fitted with bio discharged toilet facilities," Union Minister of State for Railways R Velu told reporters here today.

The project will cost Rs 4000 crore and will be completed within five to six years, Velu said.

At present there are altogether 34000 passenger coaches criss-crossing the Indian railway track.

The eco-friendly system of disposing human excreta by mechanical process has already been introduced in six trains including Rajdhani Express and a few Shatabdi Express trains and proved successful.

The Ministry has also decided to install air brake systems at all passenger coaches.
