Railways' sleeper & general coaches to have more mobile charging points

Catering to the growing demand of mobile users, Railways has taken steps for providing more mobile charging points in sleeper and unreserved general class coaches to help passengers.

NEW DELHI: Catering to the growing demand of mobile users, Railways has taken steps for providing more mobile charging points in sleeper and unreserved general class coaches to help passengers.

"Earlier, there were only eight mobile charging points in a coach. However, in keeping pace with the changing times, we have decided to increase the number of sockets to 18 as the use of mobile phone and laptop have gone up considerably," said a senior Railway Ministry official.

So far, 7,977 Sleeper coaches and 4,634 general coaches have been provided with 18 mobile charging points per coach. All AC coaches have already been equipped with sufficient mobile charging points.

Enhancing passenger amenities, railways have equipped many major stations with WiFi facility. The facility is already operational at many stations including Bhubaneswar, New Delhi, Mumbai, Howrah, Bangalore, Chennai among others.

There will be total 400 stations to be equipped with WiFI facility with the aim of 100 stations this year, he said.
