Railways registers over 4% growth in freight loadings

Railways has registered a 4.70 per cent increase in freight loadings during April-December 2013 by carrying 769.74 million tonnes (MT) freight.

NEW DELHI: Railways has registered a 4.70 per cent increase in freight loadings during April-December 2013 by carrying 769.74 million tonnes (MT) freight as against 735.22 MT during the corresponding period in 2012.

The national transporter carried 92.16 MT freight in December as compared to 88.22 MT transported in the same month in 2012, showing an increase of 4.47 per cent, according to Railway Ministry data.

During November 2013, the freight traffic carried by Railways was 84.31 MT, an increase of 2.56 MT over the freight traffic of 81.75 MT carried during the same period previous year, showing an increase of 3.13 per cent.
