Railway to construct underpasses to connect platforms

NEW DELHI: For seamless connectivity between rail platforms and convenience of passengers, Indian Railways would soon do away with constructing foot over bridges and will have underpasses at railway stations.

Rail Minister Piyush Goyal recently inspected the New Delhi railway station along with taking a train journey of Kalka Shatabdi recommended these changes.

“The minister recommended that underpasses were more commuters friendly and better for management of crowd. Starting with New Delhi railway stations, we’ll now be focusing on constructing underground passes,” the official said.


Showing its concern over hardships faced by commuters while climbing foot over bridges, the Bombay High Court had also earlier suggested that railway authorities consider building more underground bridges than foot over bridges.
