Railway Budget 2012: Maharashtra minister demands double-decker trains for Mumbai

Maharashtra Minister has urged Rly Minister to introduce double-decker trains in Mumbai.

MUMBAI: Maharashtra Textile Minister Mohammed Arif Naseem Khan has urged Railways Minister Dinesh Trivedi to introduce double-decker trains in the metropolis to ease passenger load during rush hours. Trivedi visited the city yesterday as part of his pre-budget meetings in different parts of the country.

"During the peak hours, people have to travel in extremely crowded trains. There is often a long wait to catch a train. We have suggested that some coaches in a double-decker format be tried out in Mumbai," Khan said.

The union minister during his visit met MPs, MLAs and ministers who raised many demands during the interaction.

Since the maximum concentration of population is in the suburbs, their needs have to be addressed, Khan told Trivedi.
