Rail traffic on New Delhi-Howrah route resumes

Rail traffic on the busy line came to a standstill after the Sunday's derailment and rescuers have been struggling for the past two days to clear the tracks.

FATEHPUR: Rail traffic on the busy New Delhi-Howrah route resumed today, two days after the Delhi- bound Kalka Mail derailed near here in Uttar Pradesh killing 68 people.

"One of the two tracks was cleared this morning after which train movement on this line started," official sources said.

Rail traffic on the busy line came to a standstill after the Sunday's derailment and rescuers have been struggling for the past two days to clear the tracks.

The sources said efforts were being made to clear the second track and it is likely to be made operational either by tonight or tomorrow morning.

68 people were killed and 249 others injured in the accident.
